Welcome aboard the Mystic Grace Airbnb Yacht in Mystic, CT!

Staying on board a yacht is just a bit different than staying on terra firma. One big difference is the nautical lingo. So let's take a look at some of the terms used when your lodging is on the water!
  • Aft  - the rear of the vessel; Forward - is, you guessed it, the front of the vessel.
  • Port is the left side of the boat looking forward and starboard is the right side of the boat looking forward.
  • Salon - this is what we would call a living room or den
  • Galley - you would call this your kitchen, ours is complete with a refrigerator, stove/oven, coffee maker as well as cookware, dishes, drinkware and utensils
  • Berth or stateroom - where you lay your head to sleep
  • Head - sea speak for bathrooms
  • Helm - the command center of the vessel. Mystic Grace's helm is the top deck on the bridge
  • Hatch - these are openings on the deck to the below areas of the yacht.
  • Port holes - windows, derived from the French porte (door). These were openings for the very large cannons on war ships of yore that were too big for the decks so portes were cut out so the cannons could be inside the vessels.
  • V-berth - this is the sleeping room at the front of the boat, it's V-shaped as it's the very front of the boat.

While on Mystic Grace you will have two salons, the aft salon is the room you first enter upon boarding, and the main salon is in the main cabin. We have three "berths", one is the stateroom, the largest on board; there is also a bunk room and a v-berth. Our galley also has dining nook on the starboard side of the yacht. There is a full head in the stateroom as well as a half head in the v-berth. When you venture up to the bridge, you will also find numerous seating areas as well as a dining nook.

Now you're ready to hop on aboard and talk like a pro!
